Nomad Living
The yurt is more than shelter — it is the living, breathing heart of Kyrgyz nomadic culture.
At Legacy, we make yurt stays the centrepiece of your journey, not an afterthought. Here, ancient ways and thoughtful modern touches create a sanctuary where you can truly belong, even if just for a few precious nights. This is where the fantasy becomes reality.

Yurt stays
Imagine waking to mist rising over alpine meadows or the gentle light of dawn reflecting on Issyk-Köl Lake. Your traditional boz uy offers cosy beds, warm wool blankets, and the unforgettable experience of falling asleep to the sounds of the steppe and waking to the aroma of fresh-baked bread and morning tea.
We partner with carefully selected yurt camps that honour authentic nomadic hospitality while providing the practical modern amenities discerning travellers appreciate. You are a guest, not a tourist. And the families who host you become friends.

Handicraft workshops
Our signature experience is learning to create a shyrdak — the iconic patterned felt rug that is both functional art and a UNESCO-recognised Intangible Cultural Heritage treasure.
Roll up your sleeves and work alongside skilled Kyrgyz women as they share the ancient techniques of washing, laying, rolling, and patterning wool. Learn the meanings behind the traditional motifs. Additional workshops in ala-kiyiz felt making, embroidery, and other traditional handicrafts are available throughout the season — always small, respectful, and led by master artisans.
Direct engagement
More than any single activity on an itinerary, the real magic of Legacy happens in the unplanned, unscripted moments of human connection. Sharing a meal of boorsok and fresh cream. Helping roll out dough or learning a simple Kyrgyz phrase. Listening to a grandmother tell stories of the great hero Manas while the evening fire crackles.
You don't merely observe the culture from a distance — you become part of it, however briefly. And in doing so, you leave a small but meaningful legacy of mutual understanding.
